The Open/Closed Accent Shelf is a versatile piece designed to serve multiple functions: an ambient light source, room divider, and shelving unit. Crafted entirely from reclaimed materials—hardwood offcuts, polycarbonate panels, and acrylic sheets—it is assembled using wood joinery and adhesives. This shelf is ideal for living rooms or common areas, offering light, storage, and a minimalistic accent to the space.
Inspired by the sculptural 'Space Frames' lamps by Studio Mieke Meijer, the shelf's minimalist form and material usage shaped its design foundation. The use of thin frames became central, allowing for the efficient use of wood scraps collected from various studios' past projects. Gaps were filled with plastic panels salvaged from the Baltimore community, giving new life to discarded materials. The O/C Accent Shelf embodies efficient, sustainable, and playful design.
